Lithgow (“Konklave“) tritt damit in die Fußstapfen von Richard Harris (1930-2002) und Michael Gambon (1940-2023), die in den Kinofilmen das Oberhaupt der Zauberschule Hogwarts und den Mentor von Harry Potter spielten.

Diskussion um Besetzung von Paapa Essiedu als Severus Snape

Janet McTeer (63) soll die Professorin Minerva McGonagall darstellen, ihr britischer Landsmann Paapa Essiedu (34) den Zauberlehrer Severus Snape. In den sozialen Medien führte die Bekanntgabe der Rollenbesetzung von Severus Snape zu teilweise kontroversiellen Diskussionen. Hartgesottene Harry Potter Fans kritisieren unter anderem das extreme Abweichen von den Büchern von J.K. Rowling, in denen Snape als „dünner Mann mit großer Haken-Nase und fahler Haut“ beschrieben werde.

Als Wildhüter Rubeus Hagrid ist der Brite Nick Frost (53) beim Projekt mit an Bord. Weitere Rollen werden mit Luke Thallon als Professor Quirinus Quirrell und Paul Whitehouse als Hausmeister Argus Filch besetzt.

Rollen der Zauberschüler noch nicht besetzt

Wer die Hauptrollen der Zauberschüler Harry, Ron und Hermine übernimmt, ist bisher nicht bekannt. Nach früheren Angaben sollen sich zum Casting zu der neuen Serie etwa 32.000 Kinder angemeldet haben.

Serie basiert auf Büchern von J.K. Rowling

Laut der Mitteilung soll die Serie eine „getreue Adaption“ der Harry-Potter-Bücher von J.K. Rowling sein. Die britische Autorin ist zudem als ausführende Produzentin an Bord. 1997 erschien mit „Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen“ der erste Band der Saga um den Zauberschüler und die magische Welt der Zauberschule Hogwarts. Mit mehr als 600 Millionen verkauften Büchern in Dutzenden Sprachen gilt „Harry Potter“ als erfolgreichste Literaturserie der Welt.

Drehstart in diesem Jahr

Der Produktionsstart der Serie ist für diesen Sommer in den Warner-Bros-Studios in Leavesden bei Watford geplant. Warner hatte die ursprünglichen Kinofilme mit Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint und Emma Watson als Hauptdarsteller produziert, die zwischen 2001 und 2011 in die Kinos kamen.
